Antitrust opens case against MTS on January price hike by 9.5%

MOSCOW, Feb 22 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service has opened a case against mobile operator MTS for raising connection prices in January for more than 28 million subscribers by an average 9.5%, which the operator explained by higher costs, the watchdog said on Tuesday in a statement.

“According to the service, the increase of tariffs in the absence of a technological, economic or other reason breaches the consumers’ interests. The authority opened an antitrust case against MTS,” the watchdog said.

The authority said that the operator had not provided any proof of high costs in the volume sufficient to explain the increase of tariffs.
